"Watching the world go by : Seeing the Earth's processes from space" The Showroom
Picture of Prof QueganOver recent years our ability to see the dynamics of the earth's land, ocean and atmosphere has been revolutionised by satellite observations.  These have been fundamental in improving our understanding of the earth's climate and carbon cycle, cryosphere etc.  This talk will give a survey of recent advances in our observing capability and explain how they have improved our understanding of how the world is changing and how it is likely to change.  Also included, will be discussion of how outcomes from the Copenhagen meeting may change the value we put on the environment and how these are crucially dependent on monitoring systems operating in space.
